What do I do if I have an emergency when the office is closed?Dr.'s Ortmeier and Fournier handle their own emergencies. If you are a patient of record and have an emergency just call the office and the answering machine will give you information on how to contact one of the Doctors.
I have a temporary crown in my mouth, what happens if it comes off or breaks? If your temporary comes off or breaks, just call the dental office. We will work you into our schedule to get that temporary crown back on as quickly as possible. It is not imperative that you have it re-cemented immediately but more serious problems can be avoided by quick treatment.
For example, your tooth can become very sensitive without the temporary acting as a protective cover and sometimes the space can collapse around the tooth and then the permanent tooth will not fit correctly.
My child had an accident and his/her tooth has been entirely knocked out. What do I do?First of all, do not panic. Gently wash the tooth being careful not to scrub or damage the root surface. The root is covered with ligament cells, which can regenerate and if you scrub the tooth those cells can be damaged and not heal right. The best advice is just to run the tooth under some warm water or saline water and then re-insert the tooth and get to the dentist as quickly as possible.
If you feel uneasy about reinserting the tooth, drop the tooth in a cup of milk and get to the dentist as soon as possible. Reinsertion success depends upon getting to the dentist usually within 2 hours of loosing the tooth.
